With improvements in dental implants and other techniques in recent years, removable dentures are not as common as they once were. In fact, removable full dentures and partial dentures are replaced with implant supported teeth or Hybrid Dentures.

Once implants have been placed in your jaw, they can be restored with a fixed detachable (hybrid) denture or with overdentures. A fixed detachable (hybrid) denture is secured to the implants and is only removable by the dentist. An implant supported overdenture is held in place by a bar and clip, or by one of many other attachments currently available. One major advantage of a fixed detachable (hybrid) denture versus an overdenture is that the hybrid denture is not removable. The hybrid denture is always held securely in place and can only be removed by the dentist.. Unlike ordinary dentures you don’t need to take them out every night for cleaning as they are hygienically constructed to enable you to clean underneath, but you will need to return to us a couple of times a year to have the denture unscrewed and professionally cleaned. Generally, implant supported dentures are more stable than conventional dentures and do not shift against the jaw ridge causing a lot less pain and discomfort than Overdentures.

A hybrid denture is much less bulky than a removable denture, especially if it is to replace your upper teeth. A normal removable denture covers the roof of the mouth whereas a hybrid denture leaves this portion open, which not only feels much more natural but enables you to taste your food properly.
